The majority of publishers are still doing physical for PlayStation and only a select few do them while botching it up I get the desire to look for other options though, I would only consider dropping PlayStation as my primary platform if the physical situation became really dire

It's more like, Playstation can't rest on its laurels, because this industry is very ruthless, and we already saw what happened with the PS3 after the massive success of the PS2 Some of us believe Sony needs to invest more in acquisitions for Playstation (especially after the resounding failure of its latest incubation initiatives)
